Maska Dantego Alighieri wykazuje cechy fizjonomii jego twarzy zbieżne z portretami wykonywanymi przez stulecia. Taką powszechnie znaną cechą poety jest jego orli nos. Jednak rekonstrukcje twarzy Dantego wykonane na 700 lecie jego śmierci przez zespół profesora Giorgio Gruppioniego z Uniwersytetu Bolońskiego, wskazują że nos był bardziej haczykowaty i krótki. Wykonana została z tej okazji symulacja komputerowa i odlewy z gipsu i plastiku na podstawie pomiarów czaszki wielkiego poety wykonanych jeszcze w 1921 roku przez profesora Fabia Frassetto.

Dante Alighieri’s mask shows features of the physionomy of his face that coincide with portraits taken over the centuries. Such a well-known feature of the poet is his eagle nose. However, reconstructions of Dante’s face made on the 700th anniversary of his death by the team of Professor Giorgio Gruppioni from the University of Bologna indicate that the nose was more hooked and short. On this occasion, a computer simulation and casts of plaster and plastic were made on the basis of measurements of the skull of the great poet made back in 1921 by Professor Fabio Frassetto.
